A wedding among the lupins

For a few short weeks each summer, the shore of Lake Tekapo erupts into a sea of lupins — purple, pink and blue against the turquoise water and the mountains beyond. To marry here, in that fleeting colour, is one of the most magical experiences New Zealand has to offer.

I arrange your ceremony location, celebrant, licence, flowers and photography, and time everything to the bloom — so all you have to do is arrive and marry.

What your day looks like

  • Your day begins calmly at your Lake Tekapo accommodation.
  • You travel to a chosen lupin spot, where your ceremony takes place quietly among the flowers.
  • Photography continues through the lupins and around the lake, guided by the light and weather.
  • The pace stays relaxed, with space to simply be present together.

Prices are indicative and confirmed with your personal proposal.

Frequently asked questions

When can we have a lupin wedding?

The lupins bloom from around mid-November to mid-December, occasionally lingering into early January, though timing varies year to year. It's a short, popular window, so book well ahead. Lupin ceremonies are ground-access only — no helicopter needed.

What does the package cost?

The lupin elopement package starts from NZ$6,800, with everything listed included — flowers, hair, makeup and photography, timed to the bloom. Your personal proposal confirms the exact figure for your date.

What if the lupins have a poor year?

Nature keeps her own calendar, so I watch the bloom closely and adjust your ceremony spot to wherever the flowers are best. Morning and late-afternoon light are both lovely — and I'd suggest staying in Tekapo so the day is unhurried.

With love, from New Zealand
