Beneath New Zealand’s highest peak

There’s nowhere in New Zealand quite like Aoraki / Mount Cook. At 3,724 metres it towers over a landscape of glaciers, braided rivers and alpine valleys — a place that makes you feel wonderfully small, and your vows wonderfully significant. It’s a place I hold close, with a personal ancestral connection to the mountain.

Glacier and alpine ceremonies

The most extraordinary weddings here begin with a helicopter flight from Glentanner Aerodrome onto a high alpine landing:

  • Richardson Glacier — a ceremony amid ice and snow, ringed by the Southern Alps.
  • Liebig Dome — a breathtaking snow landing with panoramic mountain views.

On the ground

For those who prefer to stay on the ground, the Hooker Valley and the shores of the glacial lakes are just as moving. Whichever you choose, I’ll plan it all and make sure your day runs smoothly.

What your wedding day can look like

Your day is planned with care, leaving room to get ready, travel, marry and take photographs without pressure. Most Aoraki / Mt Cook elopements begin with preparation at your accommodation around Lake Tekapo or Mt Cook, then travel to Glentanner for your helicopter departure. After your ceremony there’s time to take in this extraordinary landscape before returning — all kept within a confirmed timeline so the day runs smoothly and safely.

Frequently asked questions

Can you get married on a glacier at Mount Cook?

Yes — and it's unforgettable. We fly you by helicopter from Glentanner Aerodrome onto an alpine landing such as Richardson Glacier or Liebig Dome, where you marry surrounded by ice and peaks. I arrange the flight, the timing and every permit, and your celebrant and photographer come with you.

When can you marry at Mount Cook?

I plan Aoraki / Mount Cook weddings in the milder months, roughly September through May. I don't plan weddings here in June, July or August, when alpine conditions make flying unreliable. Every flight is subject to the pilot's approval on the day.

How do you reach Mount Cook?

Aoraki / Mount Cook is about an hour and a quarter's drive from Lake Tekapo, or roughly three hours from Queenstown. The helicopter departs from Glentanner Aerodrome near the village. Many couples make Mount Cook part of a small South Island journey.

With love, from New Zealand
