Chapel & Church Weddings
For couples who'd love a traditional touch — a historic little chapel in an unforgettable setting.
A traditional touch, in an extraordinary setting
If you’d love the intimacy of a chapel, New Zealand has some enchanting little churches — bringing a sense of tradition and occasion to an elopement, without any of the fuss of a large wedding.
Two beautiful chapels
- Chapel by the Lake, Queenstown — built from reclaimed church beams, stone and slate, an intimate and characterful space beside the water.
- Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake Tekapo — a historic 1935 stone chapel on the lakeshore, one of the most photographed little churches in the world.
Planning your chapel ceremony
Each church has its own booking process and limits, so I’ll tell you exactly what’s possible for your date and guide you through it. And whether your ceremony is religious, spiritual or simply heartfelt, I’ll make sure the words and the setting feel completely you.
Frequently asked questions
Can you get married in a church in New Zealand as a visitor?
Yes. There are two beautiful options I plan around — the Chapel by the Lake in Queenstown, and the historic Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo. Each has its own booking process and requirements, so I'll tell you what's possible for your date and arrange a lovely alternative if needed.
Can we have a religious or spiritual ceremony?
Of course. Your ceremony can be as traditional, spiritual or relaxed as you wish. The Church of the Good Shepherd requires a Christian ceremony with an ordained minister; elsewhere I work with celebrants who will shape the words to feel right for you.
