Booking Your New Zealand Elopement Direct — What to Know
What booking direct with your elopement planner really means — and what happens behind the scenes when you don't.
Booking direct means planning your New Zealand elopement with the person who actually creates it — me, Donna-Louise, founder of New Zealand Dream Weddings. No middle layers, no hidden markups, and one planner guiding you from your first question to your vows. After nearly 30 years of planning elopements here, I believe your day deserves more than a safe option — it deserves to be deeply yours.
What really happens behind the scenes
If you book through an agent or travel coordinator, in many cases they reach out to a local planner like me once you’ve already booked. From there, I coordinate everything:
- secure the permits
- arrange the location
- book the helicopters and vendors
- create the timelines
- make sure the weather plan is solid
That information is then passed back to the agent, and from there passed on to you. We might not speak directly at all until the wedding day — even though I’m the one crafting the experience.
Why that matters
Booking through a third party can:
- add significant fees you may not see
- create delays in communication and updates
- keep you at arm’s length from the people actually bringing your day to life
- remove the chance for deep trust and connection — the kind that really helps on the day itself
And if you’re travelling from overseas, there’s something else worth knowing: many overseas agents haven’t visited New Zealand. They haven’t flown in our helicopters or stood on a mountain ridge in a storm. They haven’t navigated local conservation laws, weather systems, or vendor relationships firsthand. Your local planner has.
What happens when you book direct
Booking direct means reaching out to me personally. Just you and me, planning your day together from the very first conversation — whether it’s for the two of you, or you and up to four guests, six people in total.
When you book directly with New Zealand Dream Weddings:
- you get personal answers to personal questions
- your experience is shaped by someone who knows the land and the logistics inside and out
- there are no hidden markups or third-party fees
- from start to finish, you have one person guiding you the whole way
I’ve spent nearly three decades planning elopements in this land, and I treat every wedding like it matters — because it does. If you’re weighing up a helicopter elopement or wondering how the legal side works, my eloping in New Zealand guide covers it all in one place.
This isn’t about cutting anyone out
It’s about caring enough to be honest. If you’ve already booked through an agent, that’s okay. And if working through one feels better for you, that’s okay too.
What matters most to me is that couples feel seen, supported and truly cared for — whether they book with New Zealand Dream Weddings or with another company entirely. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about the logistics. It’s about the moment you say your vows, and knowing that everything leading up to it was built with care, clarity and connection.
You deserve a wedding that’s deeply yours
I’ve built New Zealand Dream Weddings from the ground up, and I’m proud of every elopement I’ve helped bring to life. This isn’t just my business — it’s my life’s work. It’s been wonderful seeing more and more couples, from the US, Australia and beyond, choosing to book their New Zealand elopements directly with me. Handling everything locally makes the process smoother and more personal, and even after nearly 30 years, I still love helping couples feel relaxed and cared for every step of the way.
Want to learn more, or just ask a few questions? There’s no obligation — just real answers from a real local. Read a little about me, or get in touch whenever you’re ready.
Frequently asked questions

It means reaching out to me personally — no middlemen, no layers. Just you and me, planning your day together from the very first conversation. You get personal answers to personal questions, and one person guiding you from start to finish.
Is it more expensive to book through an agent?

We've already booked through an agent — is that a problem?
Not at all. If working through an agent feels better for you, that's completely okay. What matters most to me is that couples feel seen, supported and truly cared for, whichever way they book.
